Library Market E-Blasts - An IBPA Member Benefit

The IBPA member benefit

In cooperation with LibraryWorks, IBPA sends dedicated eBlasts containing 15 IBPA member titles to a select group of more than 5,000 librarians in one of six categories:

  1. Elementary School Librarians
  2. Middle and High School Librarians
  3. College and Academic Librarians
  4. Public Library Children's and YA Librarians
  5. Public Library Adult Librarians - Nonfiction Focus
  6. Public Library Adult Librarians - Fiction Focus

Your listing includes your title's cover image, a 450 character or less description, wholesaler information, and a unique, lead-generating link of your choosing.

Every librarian who clicks on your cover image or the title's MORE button is logged by LibraryWorks. This means that approximately 3-4 weeks after the eBlast is sent, IBPA receives a spreadsheet with that information. We share this list of leads with you, allowing you to follow up with the librarians who wanted to know more about your book. It's a powerful way to grow your email marketing list!

The price for the Library Market E-blast is $225 per title, per e-blast for IBPA members.

What to send

After registering for this program, you will receive an email with a downloadable PDF document that walks you through the Next Steps, including preparing and submitting your book's information, including:

  • Publisher name
  • Title and subtitle
  • Author
  • Genre
  • 450 character or less (including spaces) description*
  • ISBNs for up to three formats
  • Wholesaler/Distributor (up to 3; link to wholesaler/distributor must be provided)
  • Cover image (.jpeg at 200 pixels wide)
  • Web Link for MORE button**

*It is important to include parts of any significant reviews from the major trade media or influential and recognizable people in the description. If possible, a good review should take the place of a general description.

**At the end of each book's description, there will be a MORE button, which will take the librarian to the web page of your choice. Publishers may also want to offer a link to a page of similar titles with metadata and ordering information. It is suggested that you make it as easy as possible for the librarians to get the information they need.

Note: IBPA members have five (5) days after the registration deadline to deliver their materials for the program.

What to expect

Results will vary. However, the average response to e-blasts of this nature is generally higher than other services and products sent to librarians. This is because the LibraryWorks list is an opt-in list -- every librarian on the list asked to be on the list. Response to these e-blasts generally range from 7-14%. For a deployment to 5,000 librarians, there will be approximately 400-700 leads across all fifteen (15) titles. The average number of leads is between 20-40, with the range varying from 4 to 275.

  • Best case: Many librarians review your information and order your title(s)
  • Average case: Several librarians review your information and order your title(s)
  • Worst case: Exposure to the library market
