Always known for being responsible, IBPA's Benjamin Franklin mascot wears his mask and stays six feet away from his colleagues for the "Shelter-In-Place" IBPA Benjamin Franklin Awards Ceremony viewing parties! (Marble sculpture created by artist Don Tubesing, Pfeifer-Hamilton Publishers and Past President of IBPA.)
For over three decades, IBPA has announced the IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award gold winners at a gala dinner and ceremony held at IBPA Publishing University, but when the April 2020 conference had to be cancelled due to concerns over the COVID-19 health crisis, we had a major decision to make: if we’re not permitted to have in-person events, what should we do about honoring the award recipients?
IBPA knows how much effort and passion goes into publishing the books that are finalists in the 55 award categories (and think these books are incredible), so we decided it’s vital to hold the IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award ceremony any way we can. That’s how we came up with the idea to conduct the first-ever “Shelter-In-Place” IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award Ceremony viewing parties!
Mark your calendars: May 5-8, 2020 from 4-6pm Pacific each day, IBPA will host online watch parties during which we’ll announce the gold winners. Click here to register for what’s sure to be a grand event. Everyone is welcome to attend these free online parties, so invite your friends, family, and share the news on social media (#IBPABens). The more, the merrier! As a bonus for attending, IBPA is giving away fun prizes each night to some lucky attendees, including a complimentary 1-year IBPA membership, but you have to attend to win.
If you can’t attend the live streaming events, you can still watch and share the acceptance speeches! After each live event, IBPA will post the acceptance speech videos from that night on the IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award YouTube Channel. These videos will go live at 6:30 PM Pacific each night. Make sure to share the videos with everyone you know, so the entire community can celebrate the 32nd annual IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award winners!
We look forward to seeing you online soon, and thank you for supporting the independent publishing community!
