IBPA loves celebrating members’ achievements, so each week in the eNewsletter we post a Member Spotlight article that highlights one of our members’ unique stories (this article that you’re reading right now is in the spot where you’ll find those stories posted). We’re always seeking new pitches, so at the bottom of this article check out the types of stories we’re seeking.

Before we get to that, though, we’ll be running two roundup articles in the spirit of the new year for which we’d love to get your stories. For both articles, we’ll need your one-paragraph responses by end of day Tuesday, December 17, 2019.

1. Please describe the biggest publishing lesson you learned in 2019.

Email your one-paragraph answer and your headshot photo to

2. Please describe the independent publishing strategy that you are most excited to implement in 2020.

Email your one-paragraph answer and your headshot photo to

We ran similar look-back/look-ahead roundups last year, with lots of positive feedback. You can see those here:

In addition to these two specific articles, we’ll need stories throughout 2020, so we would love to hear your news as it happens in the new year! Below are the three main types of stories we're seeking for upcoming IBPA Member Spotlight articles:

  • We’re seeking “newsy” stories. Did you publish a cookbook and the author won a national cooking competition? Did you publish a book about space travel and then it was read by an astronaut on a live feed from the International Space Station?
  • We’re seeking unique stories. Did you publish a book about cycling and then do a book tour where you rode your bike across the U.S.? Did you publish a book about tigers and then start a sanctuary to rescue big cats?
  • We’re seeking human interest stories. Do you spend every weekend going to animal shelters and reading books to dogs and cats? Did you donate 100 books to your local children’s hospital?

Here are a few examples of IBPA Member Spotlight articles for your reference:

One important note about sending us your news: Publishing a book is an incredible achievement, but we’re not seeking this type of news for the Member Spotlight articles. That said, at IBPA we adore supporting our community, so feel free to email the below details of your upcoming book launch and he’ll share that exciting news on our IBPA Twitter, Facebook, and/or Instagram pages (you’ll need to “like” and follow our social media pages, so you can be tagged in the posts). These book launch announcements are for books with upcoming publishing dates, not books that have already published.

  • book title
  • book cover
  • launch date
  • a link to where people can read more about your book
  • your Twitter/Facebook/Instagram handles
  • the book's genre

For good news in general about your publishing company (your book received a wonderful editorial review, you have an upcoming speaking engagement, etc.), use the hashtag #IBPAmemberGoodNews on Twitter and IBPA will amplify your good news!

Whether you have news or not, all of us at IBPA are cheering you on!

So are you ready to contribute? Please email your news to We can't wait to hear about your achievements and share them with the IBPA community!
