Third World Press Foundation’s 50th Anniversary + Gala will take place in Chicago from Sept. 30 - Oct. 7.

IBPA member Haki R. Madhubuti founded Third World Press Foundation in 1967, making it the oldest independent publisher of Black thought and literature in the country. Since then, TWPF has published a collection of works by Black writers, including Pulitzer Prize winner Gwendolyn Brooks, poet Dudley Randall, and playwrights Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee. The foundation's mission is to always honor Black writers and artists, and to celebrate artists of all cultures. TWPF exists "primarily due to the influence of Black literature, mainly poetry, on my early life.” Madhubuti explains, adding that it is a "direct and tangible response to the Black Arts Movement’s call to action.” On Saturday, Sept 30th, TWPF's 50th Anniversary + Gala will begin a weeklong celebration of events featuring panels, book signings, movie screenings, spoken word, workshops and more. Congratulations, TWPF, on an incredible 50 years!
