Member News: June 2017

Welcome to the June edition of Independent Publishing Now!, IBPA's monthly e-newsletter featuring the latest news and information from IBPA.

It's been a busy month in the IBPA office! In case you missed it, here are some of the things your IBPA staff recently tackled on your behalf...

Phew! That's a lot. Of course, we didn't do it all alone. For example, many thanks go to IBPA members Ebonye Gussine Wilkins of August Rose Press, Don Stevens of Merge Publishing, and Kimberly Peticolas of BiggerPockets Books, for volunteering to represent their fellow members in IBPA's cooperative booth at BookExpo (05/31-06/03).

Next up on the IBPA road show: the American Library Association's Annual Conference (Chicago, IL from 06/22-06/27). If you'll be at the conference, we hope you'll stop by the IBPA booth (#3529) to say hello to IBPA's new Director of Marketing & Programming, Lee Wind, and COO, Terry Nathan, and pick up an IBPA "Publishing Standards Matter" sticker!

Now on with the show! IBPA is pleased to share our members' accomplishments below. Have member news to share? Email Caitlin Walker at to submit your information. We look forward to giving you a shout-out on Twitter and Facebook or featuring you in a future issue of Independent Publishing Now!

Thank you for being part of the IBPA community!

Author, storyteller, developer, and performer of children’s programs Jason Edwards (right) works with IBPA CEO Angela Bole (left) during BookExpo 2017 to craft an script for a 5-minute interview.
Following BookExpo earlier this month, IBPA CEO Angela Bole wrote a detailed recap of the event, addressing some of the major issues facing independent publishers and the future of BookExpo. She explains, "The net outcome... is that the value proposition for passive book display alone simply isn’t there. It’s too early to know exactly how, but I can imagine IBPA’s cooperative booth to be a very different place in 2018." more »
