About the Presenters

Maricia Perez Rodriguez grew up in the small border town of Zapata, TX, where she cultivated a love of literature, art and music. She studied journalism and briefly worked in both newspaper and television news writing. The protection of the environment and of the water quality of the Rio Grande River have always been a strong passion for her, for which she decided to pursue a degree in Environmental Science from Texas A&M University College Station. Maricia worked in environmental consulting for over a decade as both a field investigator and project manager. While working full time, she also obtained her Masters in Business Administration from the University of Houston with a specialization in entrepreneurship. After having her third child, she switched gears and returned to her love of literature and writing when she was asked to help start up Del Alma Publications, her family's independent book publishing company that specializes in creating culturally relevant literature for children in bilingual, bicultural settings. She leads the marketing and design department. She lives in Houston, TX and is a mother of three rambunctious young children.
