About the Program

How do creators of meaningful content find their audiences in a world full of noise and shrinking attention spans? By slowing down and widening the lens on how we understand who we are creating for and where and how to engage with them.

Reimagining Book Promotion brings many of the fundamentals of book publicity with a wider, more inclusive framework for engaging with and promoting good content.

This session will cover:

  • Developing a written promotional strategy for every title and project
  • Selecting promotional tactics, old and new
  • Working with graphic designers to produce promotional materials
  • Producing a promotional sheet versus a press or news release
  • Developing a framework for developing non-media organizations and outlets
  • Shifting our thinking on book launches
  • Reimagining partnerships with booksellers and other organizations

Join Helena Brantley, a former publicity director for HarperCollins Publishers and current principal of Red Pencil Publicity + Marketing for this IBPA PubU Online webinar that will offer you a framework with techniques to reimagine how to promote your content!

About the Presenter

Helena Brantley is a veteran publicist who specializes in promoting nonfiction books and events. In 2010, she established Red Pencil Publicity + Marketing. Early in her career, Helena worked at public relations, marketing and advertising agencies in New York City and Washington, D.C., on consumer brands. Later, she ran the small communications office of Call to Renewal, a nonprofit that worked to unite people of faith across the political and religious spectrum to reduce poverty. There, she worked with HarperCollins on the launch of the book God’s Politics, by Jim Wallis. In 2005, Helena was recruited to work for HarperCollins in San Francisco, where she created and managed book publicity campaigns, including a string of national and New York Times best-sellers. Today, as the principal of Red Pencil Publicity + Marketing in Alameda, CA, Helena is hired by publishers and authors to promote nonfiction titles with a small team of subcontractors.
