About the Program

Cookbooks are big business. NPD Bookscan reported that “Cookbook category sales are rising faster than warm dough,” citing recent sales increases of 21% year over year.

To better understand how to succeed in this market, a panel of cookbook publishers will discuss elements of production, marketing, and share their best practices!

Kathy Strahs is an author publisher with three cookbooks out from her publishing company Burnt Cheese Press. Her debut, The 8x8 Cookbook, won the IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award™ (Gold Medal: Best First Book-Nonfiction), and her latest, The Lemonade Stand Cookbook, also won the IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award (Gold Medal: Young Reader: Nonfiction).

Scribe Publishing, an independent publisher with two cookbooks out and another on the way, is represented by Jennifer Baum, founder, publisher, acquisitions editor, and art director, as well as by Mel Corrigan, business and marketing manager.

Topics covered will include:

  • Coordinating a recipe testing pool,
  • Assembling the right editing/design team,
  • Identifying comparative titles,
  • Positioning an upcoming title,
  • Developing an ad plan,
  • Turning recipes into publicity.

This IBPA PubU Online webinar is a must for anyone who wants to better understand the world of publishing cookbooks!
