The Book Industry Study Group publishes a guide to the adoption of ONIX 3.0 in the U.S. publishing industry

To aid book metadata senders and receivers who need information on their trading partners’ ONIX 3.0 implementation status and plans, BISG has compiled a document showing the U.S. publishing industry’s current level of ONIX 3.0 adoption and plans for future migration, with specific details for organizations who have volunteered to make their information public. The ONIX 3.0 Implementation Grid is available as a free download here.

The Grid was created by consolidating the results of a survey conducted by the ONIX 3.0 Implementation Working Group, a subcommittee of BISG’s Metadata Committee. Seventy-four organizations upstream and downstream, including many of the largest publishers, retailers, aggregators, and distributors, provided detailed information about the features of ONIX 3.0 they have already implemented or prioritized. The Grid also includes an aggregated report based on the anonymized survey results from a total 145 organizations representing all industry sectors, for a snapshot of the overall U.S. publishing industry’s implementation status and plans. The Grid will be updated frequently to keep the information as current as possible.

BISG developed the Grid a resource for the U.S. publishing industry to help support the move to ONIX 3.0, in light of the recent sunset of ONIX for Books 2.1 and the improved functionality that ONIX 3.0 provides for digital products, collections and sets, rights information, and other metadata elements.

If you would like your organization represented on the Grid, or if you have other questions, please contact Julie Morris at Julie@bisg.org.

The ONIX 3.0 Implementation Grid is one of many guides and best practices documents, available here, that BISG makes freely available for the benefit of the entire industry.
