Why did you become a book publisher? My husband and I started Ripple Grove Press because we have a passion for children's picture books. We believe we can make wonderful books for children that serve as an introduction to art, literature, and storytelling.
What do you like best about publishing? We like the passion others have in this industry. It's creative and challenging and everyone gives it their all.
What do you publish? Children's picture books.
What is the most effective form of marketing for your press? Industry newsletters and blogs.
How do you define a successful title? Part successful sales numbers and part positive reviews.
Tell us about one of your titles about which you are especially proud. Our first book comes out in fall 2014: "The Gentleman Bat". It's a beautiful and engaging book and we feel it will best fit what we want for our press going forward.
What has been your biggest challenge in achieving success? Our biggest challenge has been learning a new industry. But we've had some wonderful support and encouragement because of that.
What advice do you have for newcomers to book publishing? Join IBPA! Not to sound silly but we've learned so much about the industry through the forums and the Independent.
How will you and your company be positioned in five years? We hope to be a small press with a reputation for publishing quality stories that will stand the test of time.
When you're not fully immersed in publishing, what do you do for fun? Read, watch movies, and play outside with our little dog and our 3-year old daughter.
