Why did you become a book publisher? I became a publisher because it is what I've always dreamed doing. I was born to publish. It is fulfilling to be able to realize a dream. I like the idea of helping authors get there hard work into the public eye.

What do you like best about publishing? I enjoy publishing material that is not easy to peg into a specific genre. I like to see the light spark in people's eyes when they view our products.

What do you publish? We publish art books, comics, prints, and posters

What is the most effective form of marketing for your press? An effective advertising campaign is important. This includes print ads and public events to help increase product awareness and build a brand.

How do you define a successful title? I define a successful title as a product, which achieves national sales exposure that can potentially build to an international level.

Tell us about one of your titles about which you are especially proud. I'm especially proud of Buried Treasure: The Story of the First African Americans in New York. It is a product whose concept was a true collaboration between artist, writers, and designers. It has been well received at every event it's been exhibited.

What has been your biggest challenge in achieving success? The lack of a huge budget and being relatively unknown in the publishing industry have been the biggest challenges to success.

What advice do you have for newcomers to book publishing? Be prepared to work hard and leave no stone unturned when marketing and promoting your products.

How will you and your company be positioned in five years? In the next five years JAM. Graphics & Publishing will have a strong presence among small independent publishers. We will have a variety of book products featuring art books, poetry, prose, and a full line of comic books.

When you're not fully immersed in publishing, what do you do for fun? I like to play pick up basketball and fish for fun. I also enjoy reading non-fiction and comic books.
