“Whether you are self-publishing or have a traditional contract, a complete understanding of the publishing process and the necessary skills for all authors is a must. Building your author platform should start as soon as you start writing your book!”
Why did you become a book publisher? I saw that the Christian book industry, especially fiction, was becoming to saturated with trendy books. While larger publishers gave some authors a chance, there were still too many quality conversations being missed due to the hype of what currently trending.
What do you like best about publishing? I enjoy the process, but I LOVE holding the proofs in m hands and seeing what we helped bring to life in tangible form.
What do you publish? Christian Fiction, Inspirational/ Self-Help NonFiction
What is the most effective form of marketing for your press? Our authors! We do our best to get them in front of readers and support their events, but at the end of the day they are the ones who sell their books best. Readers want to know the writers!
How do you define a successful title? A successful title for me is one that readers say changed their life. That's our goal, not just entertainment but a connection to the readers that forces them to share with others. Sales are a part of that evaluation, naturally.
Tell us about one of your titles about which you are especially proud. The Mercy Seat by Alvetta Rolle is one of the titles I am most proud of. We took a new author and guided her to create a unique Urban Fiction novel that is well received, and that is every publishers dream. To see Alvetta blossom as an author and gain confidence in her abilities is a moment I treasure and plan to repeat with our other novice authors. We Use Coupons, You Should Too! by Nathan "Mr. Coupon" Engels, Hope Stands, The Faithful One and The Hidden Son are some of our other bestsellers that make me proud.
What has been your biggest challenge in achieving success? Our biggest challenge is likely the same as many small presses: getting readers attention in an ongoing manner. The occasional boost is spectacular, but the goal is sustained sales in paperback and eBook form.
What advice do you have for newcomers to book publishing? Learn about the business of publishing. Whether you are self-publishing or have a traditional contract, a complete understanding of the publishing process and the necessary skills for all authors is a must. Building your author platform should start as soon as you start writing your book!
How will you and your company be positioned in five years? We plan to be a recognized leader in the Christian publishing industry, though we will still be a small press, publishing select titles each season.
When you're not fully immersed in publishing, what do you do for fun? I read for pleasure and spend time with my husband and daughters, preferably at the beach.
