Why did you become a book publisher? To publish progressive books dealing with health care reform that other publishers tend to ignore.
What do you like best about publishing? Working with authors to create, publish, and disseminate their work to an expanding readership.
What do you publish? Books ( print and e-books) that advance a paradigm shift to a fair and accountable health care system that puts patients and families before business and profits and will lead to universal access to affordable health care for all Americans.
What is the most effective form of marketing for your press? We do a wide electronic press release for all new books, plus sending out complimentary books to selected journals and opinion leaders. Marketing is our biggest challenge and we need help with it.
How do you define a successful title? One that deals with important material, is timely, clear and achieves broad readership. One that can advance the nation's debate over health care and make a difference.
Tell us about one of your titles about which you are especially proud. We've published six books over the last four years. Am happy with all of them. (See our website)
What has been your biggest challenge in achieving success? Marketing!
What advice do you have for newcomers to book publishing? It takes immersion, persistence, and is expensive in both time and money.
How will you and your company be positioned in five years? Unclear at my age (84).
When you're not fully immersed in publishing, what do you do for fun? Writing, flying, traveling.
