Richard Harris Becomes New Mexico Book Association President

Richard Harris was chosen President of the New Mexico Book
Association, following the Annual Banquet Luncheon on Friday, May 19.
Harris is a well-known writer and editor of travel guidebooks and former
Editor at John Muir Publications and Blessingway Books. NMBA is an
organization for book professionals in New Mexico.
Linda Day-Schmal, Publisher at SpiritPassage, was elected
Vice-President of NMBA. Elaine Coleman, formerly Vice-President, became
Secretary, and Barbara Beasley Murphy continues as NMBA
Harris replaces Richard Polese, who had served as President since
1994. NMBA recently opened an office at 310 Read Street in Santa Fe in a
cooperative venture with the New Mexico Center for the Book, another
book-related nonprofit organization. Polese will oversee daily operations
at the office as NMBA? Executive Director.
Gladys Dana and two outstanding New Mexico bookstores received the
NMBA? Book-in-Hand Honor for meritorious service to authors, publishers,
and readers in New Mexico at the banquet luncheon held in Tesuque, New
Mexico. Dana is owner of The Dana Bookstore in Socorro, New Mexico.
