Ever look at the list of associations affiliated with PMA? Ever wonder what goes on in those groups? Well, they’re a busy lot.
In November, the Minnesota Book Publishers Roundtable summoned the talents of specialists and held a Freelancers Fair for one of its best-attended meetings. Some 65 freelancers showed samples of their work. While most deal with text (editing, indexing, translating, writing), design and production people were well represented and several publicists were on hand.
That same month, the Bay Area Independent Publishers held its first benefit book sale. The event featured readings by authors and a musical interlude by author/recording artist Sally Fletcher playing the concert harp.
Autumn was also the time for awards programs.
In their first ever competition, the Florida Publishers Association announced its 2001 President’s Book Awards to five Florida authors. The awards for excellence in six categories were presented at the banquet following the Fall Ed-U-Conference on October 6, 2001, in Orlando. Winners were:
