In the same way that it takes planning, research, and follow-through to create a book, it takes planning, research, and follow-through to promote a book. The right promotional campaign for any book means choosing the right approach, contacting the right people at the right time, and understanding that doing it right takes time.

This checklist was developed several years after I created a book-promotion timeline (both pieces were initially created for presentations at IBPA’s Publishing University). Since then, so many people have found them helpful (including us as we work with clients), that I am happy to share this with you and hope it makes planning your publicity campaigns easier.
